A non-(Thurs)day in the Life

Hello Blogosphere!

I know, I know. I normally put in the (Thurs)day in the life of Sheridan Beacons, BUT Thursday was Talent Show tryout day. The Talent Show acts are secret...for now. I will give a preview of some of our acts, but not yet!
So!
The second most exciting thing this week (TS tryouts are #1) was the Sci Fi group's experiment!

The Sci Fi group has been learning all about the Scientific Method. They have been practicing using it on all sorts of things from Basketball to lockers and other choices in every day life.

Next, they started to research the reactions of Diet Coke and Mentos. They applied the Scientific Method to their experiment: How high will Diet Coke and Mentos spray?

Paul posted measurements (in feet) on the wall.

Each group got Mentos, a 2-liter of Diet Coke and a 2-liter of another type of pop. They guessed which pop would shoot higher and how high.
Here's how you set up a Diet Coke and Mentos eruption:
You need:
pop
mentos
a tube to fit over the mouth of the bottle
paper to cover the bottom of the tube

Here's what you do:
1. put the paper on the top of the open bottle
2. line the tube up over the bottle
3. drop in your mentos (6-9 should do it)
4. pull out the paper
5. watch and see what happens!

Here are some of the group's findings:

No other pop sprays even close to as high as Diet Coke

Sprite was the closest

The highest Diet Coke eruption was 5 feet!

Also, make sure you're clear before the pop starts to spray!
Then, of course, you clean up all of your mess...look at all that pop!
Stay tuned for Talent Show updates and see all the other cool stuff we have going on here at Sheridan Beacons!
